(Don't laugh, it's happening all around us everyday) I wouldn't have a problem with it if they were to educate the viewers on just what safety measures are REALLY taken, and the procedures that are required to participate in said events. But i don't think they will! Have you ever watched his show? Nuff said. Mark my words, they're gonna make it seem like these race pilots are a bunch of CRAZY lunatics that are putting themselves and others in unessesary harm's way! Is that GOOD for the sport??? I think not. The portrait that Days of Thunder and Bob Odergaard painted was one of excitement and romance, not lunacy and danger...........OK I'm stepping off of my soapbox now....... Carry on!............
Im not so sure you have seen Jesse James Is A Dead Man TBH. Because if you had, you would know they take great lengths to educate about safety. Yes they do embelish the truth a bit about the dangers of the things he is doing. but that is to add drama to the show. It is to bring in viewers.
Personly I think the show will be good, if not great for the air races, and I dont think the show will paint a bad picture.

Im sure I (like the rest of us) will pick the show apart when we see the inaccuracies. I do already with the commercial. But hey thats TV and it is aimed at the people that know little to nothing about the sport. Lets face it. air racing is not a fun thing to watch on TV or in a movie for us. Because we have been there and seen it in person. We live it. The people this show is aimed at will look at and say hey... that looks cool!! I might have to go to Reno in Sept and see this for my self.

Steps off of my soap box.

Madison, for example about hydroplane racing, Wind about sailing and Worlds Fastest Indian showed off the salt flats come to mind.
I don't want to start this whole TOR debate again but I truly don't think anyone got what the movie was about.... Ever go to http://duggy.com/ ??

Do you see the audience that Mitch and Robert are truly aiming at?

Just an observation made from someone who knows both fairly well and sees them sitting in a booth full of stuffed "airplanes" at shows...

OH REALLY! I HAVE watched it a few times, and i have NEVER seen them take great lengths to talk about safety! It's all about the dangerous risks that are being taken! Look at the title of the show. That pretty much sums it up! I'm not trying to throw stones here Wolfee, i just don't want any more negative publicity to be thrown at the air races. There's enough of that out there already. I'm afraid that this show will do just that. We'll have to wait and see i guess............. Anyways, i'm done talking about it, right or wrong.............Sorry Wayne if i got a little out of hand.......I'll go back to my corner now......

Lady Jo is a two seat, dual control mustang.... so technically he could be flying it to some extent.

No problem Wolfee... it's a free discussion and exchange of opinions, after all..

If it makes you feel any better, if they are on the course at RENO, they will be governed both by FAA and RARA and I guarantee.... RARA does NOT like negative publicity!

Nor, does the FAA, ("we're not happy untill you're unhappy") usually, let anyone do anything *truly* overtly, at least, "dangerous" (I know, we could go on all day with the definition of that word.. )

Stuck in my room at OSH with a blown out knee.. (aggrivated old injury), waiting for my roommates to return so I can go to the immediate "care" facility and see what they can do fer me.. *sigh*

Okay... So I went and watched the trailer. The way that they spun the record is that he's trying go faster with Lady Jo than any other pilot has gone... Not for *all* P-51's, but the fastest that Lady Jo has been around the course. Obviously, it's like another race car driver comparing his driving skills in someone else's car.

Anyways, if it makes good press and awareness for Reno, I'm for it.

Re: Jesse James is a dead man

I agree! Any good press about Reno is WAY better than the news media vultures that come out hoping to get a crash on camera. The sport IS exciting, and should be exposed to a larger audience so they can see what we all love. Maybe some of them will love it too? I really didn't think TOR was all that bad. Apart from some bad acting by some of the people who should have been better actors, it had some great flying scenes. It also used the real people who race (and acted better than the hired actors). It wasn't very accurate, but what aviation movie is? Top Gun, Pearl Harbour, Mig Pilot, etc. Thousands of kids went out and joined the Navy after Top Gun came out, even though the movie wasn't very acurate. I think the producers of TOR did a good job. Ok, I'll jump off MY soapbox.

I know he had to get a PPL of some kind for the aircar build looked like ultralite and sports car mix and he flew it,I agree the good press will be a shot in the rite direction knowmatter how hollow and mis guided still a shot at good press. If jessie buys and builds/saves 1 more P51 it was all worth it,

                            Jet 1:

His persona is exactly perfect for pretty much any dude his age in L.A.

I don't think it's an act. If you "come up" as a semi biker/hot rod/custom car dude in L.A........That's Jesse, Exactly.

I got a couple of buddies in L.A. just exactly like him....well maybe a little bit more so!

Anyway...Who cares about the accuracy of the TV show....TV SHOW ....Like others have said, I approve any positive exposure he can provide, thru whatever medium.

                            Go Jesse......... I'm Jealous!

I think the thing that gets me is he comes off like he is a pilot, kind of like me saying I am a photographer Yes i know any news is good news for the sport we all love, but if we are holding out hope that a person such as this can bring good publicity to the sport, i think we are all doomed for failure.

Hey, on the bright side, now i can say i flew in the same plane as someone famous

Cannot wait for the races to get going so we can talk racing and not have to worry about things like this.......
