Another very-important & interesting chapter in the life & times of the famous Mustang racer known as "Dago Red", was during it's association w/Dallas businessman & veteran air race team owner/pilot- Alan Preston. AP entered the air racing scene bigtime @ Reno '84 by joining forces w/Dave Zeuschel to win the UNL Gold that year,-fielding the radically-modified P-51D rookie entry- #84-Stiletto (N332), raced by Skip Holm. Preston raced as a rookie himself in the T-6 Class that same year, flying #44-Miss Behavin' to 2nd-place in the Silver.
Preston's team raced again @ Reno '85 w/Stilleto & the T-6, and also entered a stock F4U-5NL Corsair purchased fm Bruce Lockwood (-whom AP befriended & hired to maintain & help fly his growing warbird collection), which he raced as #12-'Old Deadeye'.
In 1986, AP aquired UNL Gold racer #4-Dago Red fm Frank Taylor to add to his expanding race team stable & made history that year by being the first pilot to successfully-compete in all four racing classes- F-1, Biplane, T-6 & Unlimited, at a single competitive event. Preston raced Dago Red at Reno '86-'87-'88, '93, '94 & last at Phoenix '94.
Preston sold Dago & Stiletto in '87 to Sherman Aircraft Sales in FL (who raced Stiletto @ Reno '88-'89). Dago (& Stiletto) then went to Santa Monica Museum of Flying owner-David Price prior to Reno '89, and AP teamed-up w/Price to help him put-together a solid MOF air racing team & serve as race pilot mentor to Price,-who got to first-race Dago Red @ Reno in the UNL Gold that September. And thus began yet another era in Dago Red's long & outstanding racing career.
