After flying VooDoo to Stead Will got a ride back to Santa Rosa with CJ Stephens and will hopefully fly Steadfast to Reno this weekend...
Arrrr.. Talked with Will briefly earlier this evening, just as I was getting ready for my 40th high school reunion (Sparks High, class of '69 had a REALLY good time) and SteadFast is having induction problems and, as of earlier this evening, will not race this year..
OK, so I says to Will.. "Well, this'll just allow you to concentrate on winning RENO in VooDoo"... well, it's deeper than that and we might well lose Will's SteadFast as a racer....
Will is NOT a rich guy, he's a pilot, a "corporate" pilot and he is far out of his financial league doing what he's done with SteadFast...
He's going to have to sell the airplane if it can't make the few $$ that it makes at RENO by finishing where it does.
Bottom line is, Will's in debt for the airplane, if there's no prize money for it this year, he's gonna have to lose it to "break even" on the debt..
So.. Rare Bear is no longer the "People's Airplane".. The question then becomes, can we possibly make this happen again, this time for Will Whiteside?
The figure Will needs to be able to keep the airplane and race it next year is within the amount we needed to raise for Rare Bear a few years back, to pay the insurance for RENO.. it's not an insurmountable sum...
I told Will tonight.. "don't give up yet, we did this once before, we might be able to make it happen again."
I have to get with Will again to nail down the amount we need to raise for him to make it happen. It's doable.. there's a "donate" button on http://teamsteadfast.com/ if we can suck it up and make it happen, Will will keep the airplane.. if not. Well.. Guess we'll see..
Wayne...Nicely put about Will and Steadfast...I have been volunteering with labor and whatever I could do the last few weeks trying to help Will get Steadfast to Reno...Its been a frustrating and confusing problem that may keep her from racing...The guys worked some very long days recently trying to make this happen...Will is about as nice a guy this sport has and he really has done alot with a small budget...I have been working to get him some sponsor money and hope to get at least a fraction for him soon...People have really tightened up the purse strings...I hope some of you out there can muster a little support for Will and Steadfast...I know it seems like a small donation could not help, but it does and would be appreciated more than you know... not just by Will, but by all that love the sport, the planes, and the people that make it happen...GO STEADFAST...GO VOODOO
Maybe not the right topic, but I've seen you guys have a lot experience with visiting the Reno airraces. Well for me it will be the first time ever and all the way from the Netherlands.
I was wondering if it's possible to get close to one of the pylons and which one is most spectaculair?
We'll be there 18-19-20 Sept, so I would like to make some pics and footage from grandstands aswell as one of the pylons.
Thank you in advance for any tips & tricks!!
Can't wait, it's a ten year dream to go there and finally I have the opportunity to go and will arrive at SFO on sept 17th.

Good luck with that Cpt and have a nice flight. The last time I went to Reno I didn't see any photographers hanging around the pylons. In fact, I think they usually hang out around the fences.
