    Re: Gold Saturday

Thanks for chiming in Matt, and setting the record straight. Saturday was unbelievable, and has set the stage for what could be one of the best Gold finals in years! Have a great and SAFE race Matt, I'll be one of the many that's rooting on you and the Buick!

AMAZING! Just when you think the outcome is certain. So cool to see Voodoo run so well!! I was standing on the VOS fence Friday and she sounded so sweet! Had to leave yesterday before the Gold heat. Game on: Strega, Voodoo, Rare Bear with Czech Mate and Ridge Runner in the mix as well. Hats off to all the teams...those hot laps don't come without a price and we fans appreciate it!! 2010 will have Dago Red and Galloping Ghost to challenge the current field. It's going to be a long 365 days!

I've been noticing that the "stocker" Sea Furies (like Riff Raff, Pardue's Fury, Spirit of Texas, etc.) have been getting incrementally faster over the past few years. I think they're paying more attention to details- I've noticed more of them have really closed the spinner gap tighter like Pardue's has always been, for example. Little things matter. And given how fast Pardue's Bearcat got last year, I think the Breckenridge bunch has a few other tricks going too, even if it just comes down more to careful engine and airframe craftsmanship rather than extreme modification.

Dreadnought is just always amazing, and no that's not its fastest race. I think the fact that it runs so well on a "pull it out of the yard, knock the wasp nests off, and change the worst jugs" engine (at least that's the impression I got- its probably an exaggeration though) tells you how much of its success is attention to detail and overall quality of the preparation versus modifying the 4360 for extra power.
