some government agency will decide that it's too dangerous for pilots to actually fly

      Full-size radio control unlimiteds?

The only major issue I see with going turbine is cost. Turboprops of the HP range the gold racers pull now (3000-4000 hp) are very expensive, the price of an entire Mustang if not more.

I did see a group of 20 Allison T56-A-15s (4300 hp) for C-130s going for 1 mill each, but you have to buy the entire lot to get that deal.

That would be even more dangerous! If you fly R/C you know what i mean. And full size? Kinda scary with depth perception, peripheral, etc. On board cameras wouldn't really help that much either because it would only be two dimensional. Nothing can take the place of the "seat of your pants" feel, like wake turbulence for example. By the time you were able to "see" what was happening with the plane, it would be too late...............Naaa, R/C wouldn't work too well IMO, especially at 500 mph..............Not to mention the fan appeal, NOT!

Perhaps more likely than "all the wings will rip off the airplanes", some pantywaisted "czar" will seize on a spate of crashes as an excuse to prohibit or limit the sport.

              65-year-old airframes modified beyond recognition.
              Antiquated engines modified beyond reason.
Flying 40 feet above the desert at 500 mph.

That's why we started making the trip in '06, to witness this sport while it's still legal.
