    "Comin' & Goin'......."! -RACING BIPES!

The Biplane Racing Class has alot of great history behind it, offering the most accessible & affordable way to go racing for fun, w/plenty of competitive aerial jousting & warm comaraderie. Hearing those flying wires singing whenever the Bipes go racing-by the pylons, evokes all the wonderful nostalgia of WW1 dogfights, leather flight helmets-goggles-white silk flying scarfs & colorful flying circus barnstormer-era displays. Ya Gotta love 'em!

    Photos-Reno NCAR (L-R):

    1. Mon. 9/12/83- Qualifying & Practice- "Two Pitts passing in the day." Tom Geygan in #11-'Loophole Looie' heads-out to takeoff f/the racecourse, as Earl Allen taxis back in #42-'Pitts 'n Pieces'. Geygan qualified 10th in the Sport Biplane Class @ 146.350-mph, & Allen Q'd 7th @ 157.600.

3-4. RACE: Sat. 9/16/06- Biplane HT2A- Inner 4 Pylon- Bipe Champ Tom Aberle comes-in tight on the stick,-flying his 'radicalized' all-white Mong Sport #62-Phantom, on his way to a 1st-place finish in this 6-lap heat @ 248.197-av/mph. Duels are going-on behind the leader, as evidenced in the last photo- showing Jeff Watkins' Pitts S-1S #17-'Devil in Da Skies' battling Frank Jerant's Mong-Jerant Racer- #16-'Mongstrosity'. Both competitors completed 5 laps, w/Jerant finishing 6th @ 177.587 & Watkins following in 7th @ 173.764-av/mph.

                          "Wings & Wheels".......

What could be better (& more fun) than a classy set of hot wheels to get you where you're goin' to in-style? - Well,-how 'bout a really cool pair of wings (on wheels) to fly you there quicker? -of course!

It's a fact- nothing accelerated primitive mankind's overall development more than his remarkable invention of the wheel. Thousands of years of applied wheel-technology culminated w/the astounding invention of the automobile (initially-dubbed- "The Horse-less Carriage"), along w/the motorcycle, & thus,-the wheel's true potential was finally realized. Today, most everyone in the 'civilized' world loves & enjoys driving their own set of-'wheels' around, f/both work & play transportation requirements. Auto Racing has traditionally reigned as the most-popular of all motorsports.

Then came- The Airplane & human transportation literally-'took-off'! Wheels were employed in aviation design early-on, for safer & more efficient transitioning between earth & sky. Now, air transportation routinely-commutes us to most-every worldwide destination in safety & comfort. When we can't drive there - we fly there. We have truly come to love our wheels & wings!

Here's a half-dozen 'Buck Shots' to illustrate the point. (Identifying the planes is no problem. Perhaps you can- 'name the wheels' )

                          Photos (L-R/Top-bottom):

                          1. Sun. 9/20/81-Reno NCAR- Wiley Sanders' P-51D #69-Jeannie gets towed back to the pits by the crew, following rookie race pilot- Skip Holm's Unlimited Gold victory.

Seaplane Facility- Flying-in from her Canadian base at Prince Rupert, B.C., -RCMP Grumman Goose C-FMPG pays a visit on official business. (Goose MPG is now proudly-installed on display in the permanent collection of The Canadian National Museum of Aviation in Ottawa.) The Goose flying boat amphibian design provides the ultimate aviation utility design: Wings & Wheels on a boat hull- "WET & WILD!" (Oh Yeah!)

                          3. Sun. 5/17/09-Chino Airport, CA.- Pilot Roy Mabee strikes a truly-'classic' pose w/his wheels, in front of pal- Les Whittlesey's immaculate Lockheed Mod. 12A Electra Jr. NC18906 (S/N-1277).
