      Re: Tiger 1988

the price of a restored Mustang has skyrocketed from $70,000 five years ago to $500,000 today (1988).

Ummm..I don't recall any $70,000 Mustangs available in 1983, unless they were basketcases with possibly parts missing. I believe P-51s were going for $500,000 - $1 million area for a decent stock flyer with a number of hours on it already.

      This sound incorrect?

I DO recall a clean T-6 in the $40,000 range around that time though.

        Re: Tiger 1988

We had a family friend that owned several old aircraft. Back in 1972-3 he sold his flyable Mustang for $35,000. He felt he had ripped the new owner off as nobody should pay that much for an old plane! He had flown them in WW2 and Korea and just didn't want it anymore.
Unfortunately he passed before I got interested in the history of it all.

Well, yeah, in the early 70's.

I'm talking about ten years later, as mentioned in the article.

As I remember you could get a good flyable mustang for the $200-300,000 range around then.
            Spinner would know.
