Organizers have confirmed the appearance of a Japanese Mitsubishi Zero fighter as a star attraction at this years show..
This will be the first time a Genuine Zero has appeared at an airshow in the southern hemisphere..
Im not sure who's Zero is appearing as there are 3 airworthy examples, i know of at least 2 that have P&W power, plus the POF example with its Sakae powerplant.

The WW1 scene is thriving here in NZ, at the Classic Fighters Show that is held every opposite year to Warbirds over Wanaka the WW1 plays a much bigger part, 2 shows ago there was 10-12 WW1 airplanes in the sky together, with 7 DR-1 triplanes, an SE5a, Sopworth Camel, Neuiport 17, Pfalz and others in the same block of sky.
Last show (09) there was also a Be-2c in the sky, Fokker DVII in the mix, and there are more and more reproductions being built in NZ by the Vintage Aviator Ltd, this company has reverse enginered German Rotary engines, rebuilt and reverse enginered Beardsmore powerplants and also RAF-1 V8's and now with a Albatross DVa in the air aswell Mercedes III aero engine as well.. the team at The Vintage Aviator take the utmost care to use original methods, and supplies wherever possible, but now also have the plans, tools to build these airplanes, and in the case of the RAF.1a, Mercedes,
Projects have included the Albatross DVa, FE2b, Fokker DVII, SE-5a (3 completed with Hispano V8 power), RE.8, BE-2 (multiple versions) Bristol F2B (beardmore power 1 completed), and Sopwith Triplane, The RAF1a, Oberursel engines have been totally built here in NZ and can be supported for longer term as they have the tooling to produce these in small numbers.

The airplanes are truly unbelievable in their quality of build, look and sound amazing in the air.
