Wow, what a weekend +!
From a start that could have spelled total disaster for the team and their fantastic effort, to a deal hammered out between Team Rare Bear and Critical Mass Air Racing that just absolutely is the essence of this sport.. and onto a milestone in any Air Race Mechanic's portfolio for two of the Rare Bear Air Racing Team's members!
Crew Chief Stacy Thomas and Crewmate Elliott White were entrusted by Lyle and John to be designated "engine runup men" on Sunday after the event wound down.
I don't know if I've ever seen two guys smile broader and you might note in this photo.. Stacy forgot to put his "ears on" when he did his test run of the Rare Bear's VERY loud R-3350... When I reminded him after the run, his response went something like..
"I don't care!!!!!" emphisis on the !!!!
Congratulations to the ENTIRE TEAM! When John Penney describes these guys as GREAT.. He means it from the bottom of his heart.
To all fans of Air Racing. This team, just about this time last year, were just like all of us.. Fans.. fans who watch and wonder.. look what they did with their time and effort after they stepped up to the plate and volunteered..
This country is founded on the spirit of "volunteerisim" personally, I think this team and all the others in this sport, largely volunteer, just smacks of what this great country that we live in is all about. just as this wonderful sport does!
