Is there anywhere online I may find a decent picture of Miss Merced preferably in 1971 ? Might someone have a good quality scan they might be willing to share ?

Thank's ... There used to be a site that had a gallery with quite a few older racers on it, but I am not able to find which site that was.

WAP had a bunch, but is currently missing due to server problem. Not sure what the recovery status is...

Can you narrow down what you're looking for, gear-up landing......?
I've got a few books not in storage, I can look an see what I've got.

I would like to find a couple taxi/ground shot's from 70/71 ( prior to wheels up landing ) to use a reference for modeling...

Would also like the someday find a good pic that might print in 8x10 and frame nicely ..

The Reed Kinert book "Racing Planes and Air Races" 1971 Annual has some great shots including the three view drawing! b&w though!

Warbird Tech "Hawker Sea Fury" also has a shot of it

My educated guess is Mustang yes, Invader no.

I think that's the 1971 Mojave 1000 KM race. Bill Jackson (who if I recall, was the Commanding Officer of one of the VX squadrons out of China Lake?) raced Sherm's Mustang N5445V at that race. And if it is in fact Mojave, that that would probably be the Lloyd Hamilton/John Alford "On-Mark" Invader in the background.

...Big Jim is correct...the second pic is 1971 Mojave 1000 KM race

...the P-51 is N5445V raced by Bill Jackson...

...the A-26 "On-Mark" is N500M raced by Hamilton and Alford...
