  • 1200hp NXT........ Who would do that?

OK, what sort of a speed junky would take the fastest kit design ever built and remove the 500hp engine that can make the NXT go over 400mph and install a 1200hp Turbo Prop engine?

    How fast would it be?

    How fast would it climb?

Well, it appears I am going to find out!!! One of my customers along with the help of John Parker is just a few weeks away from firing just such a monster up!

Stay tuned to see the bar raised just a bit!!!

ummmmmmmmmmm that is going to be a rocket ship... Though wheeler landings are going to be interesting, not much tip clearance with that 5 blader

I am sure that the airframe can handle this setup, otherwise you crazy speed demons wouldn't be doing it. I just can't imaging how skilled the pilot has to be for takeoff and landings.
Has any changes been made to the control surfaces?
Will three point takeoff and landings be the rule?
Its going to be one FAST bird once she is in the air. I hope she makes it to reno so we can see her fly.
One last question. Will the 5 bladed prop reduce top speed? Seems to me that it will, but I bet you can climb like a bat out of hell.

Any chance we could see that thing in Mitchell for the AirVenture Cup race?

I saw that monster last year at reno

under construction....very nice from what I saw but damn scary as well. I can't imagine the training curve that's going to be needed to learn all the subtle tricks that it will require when being pushed!
I still contend that we need a turbine class at Reno!

The story I heard was it is being built with the intention of destroying a few time to climb records.

                  Me like very much.

YES a turbine class please. It is the future.

Best of luck to the owner with their new bird. I wanna know how fast is predicted?

At least you dont have to mess with a mixture or prop setting....

And you can "back taxi" into your chosen spot... if necessary...

I'll never forget, years ago when turbine Legend stopped by John Parker's shop.. I believe it was during the first PRS.. He wooshed by all of us, up to AAR's hangar, then scheewwooww'd into reverse and backed up... sumptin about airplanes backing is just plain sexy...

Apart from the obvious tip clearance issues,
I think the prudent technique might involve
taking off at very reduced power settings at first.

Say, did the Turbine Tucan ever come to fruition in
                        terms of the air-show circuit?

                        Cheers!

From what I understand they are working on breaking records first.

Re: 1200hp NXT........ Who would do that?

Reading through your comments I have a few thoughts.
                              1. The prop clearance is not a big deal, I trained in a Pitts before flying Relentless doing wheel landings and I am sure the clearance is less. You must always land nxt on mains and fly tail to keep heading.
                              2. I am far more confident in turbo prop from reliabilty, I flew same engine on my Conquest for many years. Issues are always systems onthese sort of projets. Fuel, beta, cooling. That is why it is experimental.
                              3. Airframe, I have been over 350kts ias and will not be to stressed until we get above that, slowly.
                              4. Take off weight should be aroun 2200 lbs. So at over 4000 lbs of thrus the climb should be ok. Ie. What is the thrust to weight of a F18? Yea baby!

I will be looking closely at the plane today and udate what I find!
