      Speaking of NXT's - anyone have any news on Team Big Frog (diesel NXT)? I noticed they are not on the race list -

        Big Frog won't make it. Plane is running great but there simply was not enough time to finish testing and to Reno. They will be displaying in one of the chalets however if you want to see more..

          I'll never forget, years ago when turbine Legend stopped by John Parker's shop.. I believe it was during the first PRS.. He wooshed by all of us, up to AAR's hangar, then scheewwooww'd into reverse and backed up... sumptin about airplanes backing is just plain sexy...

          Back in the 80s and early 90s American used to allow "power backing" of their 727s and MD-80s out of airport gates and that was a strange enough sensation when you were aboard. It was especially cool on the 727 because it can be backed with just the center engine whose reversers kick out sideways and pretty much eliminate the chance of FOD ingestion, whereas the MD80 really raises a mess on the ramp. But I once flew into a small island in the Bahamas on a Beech 1900 and the pilot darn near parallel parked the thing, turning and backing simultaneously. THAT was an odd sensation (and sound!)

            My dad described going into "airfields" hastily carved into the jungle in Vietnam, with the C-130 (B models). They would brush the trees coming in, reverse as soon as they touched (sometimes "a little earlier") and stop short. The pilot would then turn it around and back as far into the jungle as possible so they could get that last couple of feet of "runway" (these were cut by tanks with dozer blades so NOT anything resembling smooth). Loaded with wounded they would brush the trees on the way out. Absolutely no margin for error!
            I love the sounds of turboprops, I can't wait to see and hear this thing FLY!
