FIFI is finally back in the air. She took off about an hour ago with a fighter escort. Looked and sounded GREAT. I'll try to get some pics when she comes back.
Awesome news for warbird fans worldwide.. the ultimate Allied Bomber back where she belongs..

That is the most beautiful sight and sound I've seen or heard in many moons! Does the heart good to see her back in the skies. Was the thrill of a lifetime to have had the chance sit and stand on her flightdeck while making a "bomb run" over Seattle back in 1995. Look forward to making our reunion!
Congrats to the entire FIFI/CAF folks! Well done...well done.
I would not say we are grounded, that is awfully strong language. We are currently working through a problem that came up on the second flight. we have some very good mechanics working on the issue but we will fly again soon.

O.K., sorry for using a politically incorrect term. FiFi is "aerodynamically challenged" due to problems with the #2 engine.
Why all the secrecy regarding the issue? You guys can't even say something vague like the engine is running hot, oil cooling problems, etc.?

I apologize if I came across harsh, that was not my intention, just when I hear an airplane is grounded it sounds REALLY bad. The issue the guys are chasing is not that bad. As far as the vagueness, it is not trying to be secretive, just that we are not 100% sure what the issue is yet.
When I get definitive word from the mechanics I will do my best to let you guys now, unfortunately I had to leave Midland this morning, so will only be able to relay the information as it is given to me.

No problem, flyingsailor. I was just responding kind of "tongue-in-cheek" anyways. I can understand where you are coming from. Being a person who deals with public statements and press releases, you fully realize the nuance, subtlety and power of words to the public, so I understand your reaction. No worries at all. Thanks for giving us any information that you are cleared to release to us. We're all happy that FiFi is back in the air and hope these issues get resolved quickly.
Friday flight report: Following takeoff lead scanner reported several puffs of black exhaust as well as several backfires during initial climb. Precautionary landing resulted (NOT emergency landing as reported by local media). Post flight inspection revealed a faulty mag distributor. Unfortunately after replacing, engine run revealed some damage still present, currently examining valves and carb.
