I did not get a chance to respond before Wayne closed the thread. I DO NOT under any circumstances blame any of the 3 websites that cover air racing. I place the blame on the shoulders of the teams, and RARA itself. All 3 of the sites can only report what the teams tell them.
Imagine this senario, Mr. Unlimited makes a presentation to Mr. Sponser. Mr. Sponser sees your package and asks, "Since you only race once a year, how do the fans, and media keep up with your team during the off-season? Mr. Unlimited replies, "Well there are 3 websites that do a real good job of covering air raciing on the net." You add, "But we don't really ever tell them anything though" Mr. Sponser replies, "Oh, I see you must have your own website to keep everybody updated." Mr. Unlimited smiles and says, "Why yes we do, but we only update once a year after the race is over." At this point if I'm Mr. Sponser, I tell Mr. Unlimited to stop right there and get the hell out of my office, and quit wasting my time!!
I stand by my statement about the pathetic excuse for a website that Dago Red has.
( I was a little harsh here, in hindsight. The website is fine, but updating once a year is no good. I apologize to the individual who runs the site, but as before, it nees to be updated more than once a year.)
If you only have a website that updates once a year, why even have the damn thing!! I mean use your brains and get a little creative here. Why not post an interview with Skip asking about the almost 500mph lap, post an interview asking about the Gold final on Sunday. Ask if he was worried about the horrible wind, was he worried about Strega, Mike Brown? Post a monthy calender of Dago Red shots. Make a screen saver of Dago shots, post video clips of Dago. Post tech. articles on the difference between a stock Merlin, and a race Merlin. Tell us about the condition of the motor when it went to the shop. This is just stuff off of the top of my head, I'm sure many people could come up with more ideas. I don't do websites, but with the tech. sector in the tank, I'm sure there are many people who could design a heck of a site and update it at least once a month.
RARA also needs to be on the case of every team, in every class to get out and promote themselves whether through the web or appearing at air shows, or other activities.
RARA also needs to get it's head out of its butt and get TV coverage of the race. I keep reading that there is some kind of politicial background reguarding TV coverage. What kind of BS is this!!! Get a TV deal done!!!
I have written Wayne, and team Rare Bear about trying to get HDNet to cover the races, or sponser a team. This is an all High Definition TV network for those that don't know. After this weekend I'm more convinced than ever, that RARA ought to call HDNet's owner Mark Cuban every damn day until they at least take a look at covering the race. Why am I convinced? Well on Thursday of this past week I watched "Wings over Houston" on HDNet. This was a one hour special in HD that covered the airshow. It featured the CAF planes. I tell you what seeing warbirds in HD, and hearing them in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio is someting else.
RARA and every team, in every class needs to take a hard look at what they can do to promote the races.
