silver predictions for the Gold races

Kicking off a 2010 Reno predictions thread, at this point I'll go on record as at least saying I think at least three of the Gold Race champions this year will wear mostly SILVER paint. And I'm not even thinking about the Jet Class and Biplanes yet at this point....hmmmmm.

I don't underestimate the power he can make, but with the shortage of good 3350 parts, I do doubt the reliability. The Sanders are going to move away from 3350s to 2800s on their Sea Fury restorations. That speaks volumes about the 3350 parts supply.

I agree whole-heartedly, Race5. Parts for these birds are getting scarce.
I'm a G-1 mechanic and my company operates the largest fleet of G-1's left in the world. Parts for them are getting really hard to come by. We have to resort to STC's and manufacturing of some of the airframe parts on our own.

I'm just hoping that with the proper financial backing (Mr. Lewis) they can take machine drawings and manufacture what they need to continue to go fast AND be reliable. With CAD machines these days and the advent of better metallurgy, maybe it can be done, albeit expensive.

I really dont think Jimmy will push it to the point of no return. And they have already proven that they have a strong engine program.

Every year I have seen Jimmy really going for it. (2007? was the last time I think) he seems to blow up at some point. Don't get me wrong, that's nothing against him or his crew. I'd love to see that airplane do well, but I don't think it has the motor program in place to hang with the Nixon/Hughes motors.
