Agree with Wolfee. The wings look hell clipped, Even shorter the standard production break clippings Like RRIII does.Looks like the horzontal stab is clipped too.Anybody out there got the goods on this observation?

They are the shortest wings a mustang has ever worn. Same tips that were on Stiletto, who also had the same wing length.

I REALLY hope that the short wings on GG don't hurt her performance. When Z did this modification to the airframe back in 1983 (as well as when he did the same modification to Stiletto in '84) the race course was a much different beast than it is now.

It's shorter and tighter, and my guess is that it may cause GG to 'mush' around the course.

GG is in the pit directly behind Voodoo/Steadfast and that pic came from the top of Voodoo's race trailer (the parts trailer )

I had the pleasure of speaking with Steve Hinton Jr. at the Dream Machines show in Half Moon Bay this year, and I asked him what he thought about the Ghost.. He didn't seem to think they posed any threat and mentioned how much they clipped the wings..

It seemed to me that he thought the wings we're clipped too much to be competitive with Strega around the course, but did mention the aero advantages of not having the scoop.. I guess we get to find out in a week from now!

It wasn't too many years ago Jimmy was running up close to he lead in Race 9 with just a hot motor and a few mods before the engine let go after having to work his way through the silver. I think it would be a mistake to think he cannot contend with The Ghost.

forgot to mention, the engine is not a race tune, but a solid, well built "stocker" I was told. Also should be pretty fast regardless....

Yeah, I took it on top of the second trailer where steadfast us pitting. Jimmy's trailer is in place now, so the view is a bit obstructed.

Ghost made several passes this morning when he came in.

Might be a dumb question, but how does GG get enough airflow for cooling without a scoop?

To paraphrase a TV character I like, "It's cooling, Jim, but not as we know it." The Ghost doesn't have a radiator in the normal sense, where air flows over it to keep it cool. Rather, it is sunk in a tank of water/methanol, and that cools it. The water boils off and is dumped off the side.

Well, I am an aerospace engineer, studying to be one at least.
In laymen's terms, it is a true liquid cooled engine. And that's all you need to know.
