Hmmmmm....B-25 canopy on a P-51. That\\\'s an image. Sounds like something Bob Deimert would have done.

But what Unlimited Race Plane do you own and fly Randy?

To publicly bash someone else's it must be the best one on the ramp.

Like TJ said, the boss didn't have a problem with it.

Seems to me like you took the comment more personally than TJ or Taz did. I know you had involvement with the plane, but dont take the comment personally.

As far as optical clarity goes, the big canonpy on Critical Mass sucked. Theres no if, and, or but about it. TJs right, though...Tom didnt have a problem with it. But just because Tom didnt have a problem with it, doesnt mean the optics werent bad.

Calling a spade a spade is not publicly bashing someone. I didnt hear or read anyone criticizing the Dwelle family.

Want to know something else? The optical clarity of the old Foxy Lady/Sumthin Else canopy on Leewards plane sucks too. Just compare it to how the canopies on Dago/Voodoo/Strega look. But thats not knocking Leeward. Or Crocker. Or Burnstine. Its just saying that the distortion and optics on the canopy suck.

Just my 2 cents worth...from a guy who has made his share of race equipment that wasnt perfect, and was willing to acknowledge it, but was acceptable to the guy who had to drive it.

Like I said, it's wasn't perfect. I have no problem admitting that and would be the first to agree. But it doesn't matter who was "involved" with the project.

The point is, what's the point in criticizing someone else's work?

"Calling a spade a spade is not publicly bashing someone."

So calling out someone substandard work is just calling "a spade a spade"
          Wow. What a class act.

I guess at Walmart they would stock it right next to the mustang rudder trim tab (the ones that fall off), or the Rare Bear canopy that fell off ... lol

              That comment made me laugh...

Since you don't know, Dialtapper will always take it as a personal attack. When he wrenches on an airplane (racing or not), it is always serious and always very personal.

Hey, now this one could have legs. Since it's the off season.
How about a thread titled: Let's call a spade a spade!
There could be a 3 beer minimum for posting...lol

I don't -- which one do you own and operate?

(Man, it's annoying when people get butt-hurt over a funny observation on a web forum)

Ha! I don't. All I have ever done is wipe the oil off a couple.

Just seems that a guy who puts down somebody else's must have better one himself. Or just a big watch.

Re: Where does one get a canopy like the race mustangs have?

I have no dog in this fight, but I'm confused a little. If the canopy in question has ripples, and a member here commented on that, how is he putting down someone else's work? The canopy has ripples, everyone knows it, and you guys agree on that, so if its pointed out on a message board, how is he attacking the person that made it? In my eyes, if its a fact, that's just the way it is.

I understand that many people take much pride in their work, especially in this sport, and I can respect that. But in a public message board, thin skin or hurt butts should stray away; nothing good will come of it.

                        Just sayin...

I don't think you quite understand the level of pride and dedication of the mostly volunteer crews who race... particularly at RENO...

Dialtapper is someone who "has the brass ring" he's put YEARS of dedication and hard work into making race planes faster and SAFE....

Some of the people who visit here take special pride in "chapping hides"....

Let's all try not to be those people...

Good question -- that's the same way I feel about it, and am just as perplexed with Chris' reaction to it. It was a comment, not a criticism, and there is a significant difference in both spirit and intent between the two. At least TJ seemed to take it in the spirit in which it was offered.

Well here it is, and you can tell me if it's "big" (sts); Casio MTG-900. Solar powered, GMT with one button-push, and auto-hacks itself with the US Naval Observatory master clock via radio every day. Plus, it holds up fine against repeated exposure to G in flight, I can slam it against canopy rails and anything else in the cockpit and not do any damage, and it's waterproof so swimming and showering in it is okay (haven't tried SCUBA with it yet).

Agreed! I very well may not understand the level of pride and dedication these volunteer crews put in, but damnit I RESPECT what they do! If it wasn't for them what the hell would I do in Spetember? I was caught off guard by the way he responded to Randy's post and it confused me. I am not trying to question any of Dialtapper's experience or challenge him in anyway; I don't know him and would never do that here. I hope he, or anyone else, didn't take my reply as an attack.
