Re: Flugwerk AP-51 Palomino for Unlimited?

Back in the 70's my dad and grandfather put a bid in and got 3 PT boats that were being released by the navy. Their original idea was to sell the engines on the aircraft market and build up 2 of them as cruisers. Once they found out the engines were not compatible, they ended up salvaging two of them and only keeping one. Over several years my grandfather built it up as a cabin cruiser, converted it to diesels, sold it to a buyer back east and took it on a delivery trip through Panama and up the Mississippi. I don't remember what they did with the engines.

Leo, I do remember at somepoint back in the late eighties someone asking around the idea of using one of the PT boat Packards in a Mustang. I remember just laughing uncontrollably at that suggestion....not to be mean, but more from the \'oh, there is just no way that would work\' point of view.

On paper its got huge power. And kind of like the discussion in this thread about the Shackelton prop system with the Griffon and using it in a racing environment....when it\'s used in it\'s intended purpose (i.e. running in a certain RPM band in a PT boat) it works just fine. Outside of that...not so much.
