Ok i know this is totally off topic, but i had to post...
I ventured to our local Model Engineering society as today was their last open day of the Dunedin Summer Festival.. the only airplanes were hanging in the display hall but, the pond on the other hand had a few boats out.. including the clubs 688 class submarines, and a scratch built LSD vessel that has a working Landing Craft as well.. this model is over 2.5m long (nearly 9 feet) and is controlled by a 7 channel radio..

There's a group here called the "Western Warship Combat Club" that actually build and use ammo-firing model ships (CO2 and ball bearings).

They actually have battles and sink each other! The ships are made of light wood and repair quickly and the electric "works" are well protected, so several battles per day can occur.
