I don't care for turning over part of our space program to private sectors, but from what I've learned, they seem to have their (poop) together as far as making small orbital vehicles. With so many outfits making space launch vehicles now, it would almost seem wasteful for the government to duplicate their efforts, as SOMEONE has to get it right.
The hard part is making vehicles large enough for leaving Earth's orbit or for hauling huge loads into orbit. NASA is still going to do that, along with still making a capsule for passengers. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they complete them.
I admit I'm sick to death of replacement vehicles getting halfway developed and then canceled over the last few decades (X-33, X-34, etc...). Let's just get something new flying before I die of old age and then sort it out later (I'm only 51 now). If NASA can't finish a project, then maybe someone else can.
But don't get me wrong. I'd rather see the shuttle keep flying until we DO have a NASA-BUILT replacement ready, but that's just not gonna happen (sigh*)
