I know that RARE Bear's tail graphic of a bear crushing a plane in his hand was revealed in 1983, because I was really bummed when it eventually disappeared around '85 or '86.

You're in luck. I don't have the photo I believe you seek, but I did a search of this forum using Wayne's search-tool thingy, and found this very sharp snapshot, posted by (and most likely photographed by) FENCELINER:
