As if we haven't heard enough already....

Have you seen the newest state of the Nuclear art...it is Micro nuke plants....Instead of one or two big 1500 MWatters they have little light water nuclear reactors that can produce approximately 40 megawatts of electricity or 150 megawatts of thermal power. The systems are small-the reactor vessel measures 14 feet in diameter and comes encased in a 60-foot long container made from three-inch thick steel-but they can be deployed in arrays of up to 24 reactors if necessary.

This technology should provide a rebirth to the Nuclear industry around the world....

And how fitting the talk of nuclear power is on this thread. It says on Rare Bear website that the Bear carries a Thermonuclear Device

Wonder what kind of prop you need to make a 14 foot diameter 60 foot long Nuclear powered racer...with 40 MW of power...go fast.... Sheeeze....and what about the wings...I wonder where the Pilot sits?

Well, there WERE nuclear powered aircraft proposed and it went as far as the building of the X-6, a modified B-36 that carried a small reactor on board to test the feasability. Tons of shielding, and it never flew with any sort of nuclear propulsion.
The proposed engines were kind of cool, basically using the heat produced by the reactor to create a jet effect.
I can imagine any kind of crash would be quite an event.

You gotta love that kind of wacky thinking during the early days of the Cold War. We'd try anything and do it fast.

Now it takes us 20 years to field a new fighter plane. Sigh.

Nuke powered bear almost beats my prop design with ram jet afterburner !

                      Right Wayne !

I could also use just 95 hp flat 4 and still go sonic. I wonder if RARA allows such an afterburner in a ducted twin fan design ?

I think the piston engine exhausts could ignite the ram "engine" proprellant in the tube.

This design is more or less for engineering study before entering the races.

I reckon da Bear looked always cooler with 3 blades.

Hydropower is a great carbon neutral source, but the enviro-mentalists don't like the impact to nature.

As we mentioned before windmills have a habit of cuisinarting raptors.

                        Then what do you do?
I live/work near the Altamont Pass in Central CA where there are hundreds of windmills going constantly. never have seen any dead birds laying around caused by the windmills but i guess the fox and coyote take care of the evidence.

MIT's artificial leaf is ten times more efficient than the real thing

I read about this when it was first released. I find it pretty amazing and confusing, the confusion is based on the fact that it didnt make alot of headlines. I personally think its a freeking HUGE story and devolopment. Put a few of these on your roof, you can store the hydrogen and oxygen for use by the fuel cell later on. And if I recall correctly, the problem with fuel cells is the large amount of power needed to split the water molecule. Looks like that has been solved now. A fuel cells exhaust is what water vapor?
                          What do you all think?

Wow, I didnt know they were that far along, imagine carbon neutral big block chevy's, lol Thats great news.
So now we have a use for nevada besides air racing, lol

This just screamed at me "When U.S. Senator John Kerry toured the company’s labs in October, he called the technology “a potential game-changer.” He noted, ironically, that the company’s science is so advanced that it can’t qualify for federal grants or subsidies:" Looks like the feds dont have their hooks in them yet.
