Miss America actually first raced as Dave Allendar's #19 "Wayfarer's Club Lady" at the '66 Lancaster races. It was then sold to a guy...Bob Cleaver is the name that comes to mind, but I'm not sure that's correct...anyhow, he is the one who gave it the red, white, and blue paint scheme. I've seen photos of it like that but without the race number...looks kind of funny. Howie bought it from him in 1969, and that was when it was given the name "Miss America" and Race #11.

Cudos for trying something different, but it always looked like a cheap condom ad to me...

I'm no big fan of "Lancer II" but I don't think it, or anything else, really compares to "Miss Suzy Q" when it comes to bad paint jobs. Just my .02 cents of course.

Or...some of us more strangely-wired folk recall that paint job with affection and consider it one of the best ever. It certainly matched his personality.

          Just sayin'.

Just to add another to the list of ugly is that Orange L-29 jet from last year.

The orange L-29 was Penneys daughter I think? I will say it was pretty ugly, but she raced it pretty well.

That's the one. No slam against her intended, I just don't like the paint job.

I really liked the orange L-29, especially when you compare it to the blue-grey-black cammo plane that looked to be painted with rattle cans.

That camo job looks good. From a safe distance. The L-29 I like is "Screamin Eagle" That was a well thought out scheme.

The orange L-29 is "Raju Grace" and is indeed Heather Penney's ride. Personally, I like it. Especially the detailed artwork up front. Granted, it's hard to see unless your right there up close.

According to an interview last year, the plane is getting "Vipered" for this year which should put it near the front of the class.

It's great to have another Penney rounding the pylons!

It's already been Vipered. They were testing it a PRS. I think they got over 500mph, but judging by a few pics I have seen of the tail being damaged around the exhaust section, I think they had some issues. Might have been a hot start, but not sure.

It's one of those 'that's so bad it's kinda good'.

I figured there were some of you guys out there. Particularly considering I "borrowed" the picture from the "Best Color Scheme Ever..." thread!
