the crew deserve medals for showing true skill to get her down after the airborne event that necesitated her unscheduled landing.. a true shame to see the remains

Is it truly a total loss? I've read magazine articles and seen TV shows were they find an old wreck on some god forsaken island. They recover some scraps of metal not much bigger than a coffee can. Ten years and millions of dollars later Steve Hinton is flying it to airshows around the country. Is it a money thing, or is it truly that there's not enough left to rebuild?
Parts and major components can certainly be salvaged and used on other airframes....but do you see that thing between the wings, just behind the cockpit? That's what's left of the wing-spar...and once that goes, the plane's back is broken forever. That airframe, as we knew it this morning, will never fly again.

Don't know whose photos. Click on the links to view.

In flight fire (looks to me like the gear is just coming down):

As everyone else has stated, I'm very glad for the excellent job getting down and everyone out, but I'm very saddened by the loss.
