I'm also wondering if the mustang wasn't already in trouble halfway through his break because he was banked but no longer pulling through the turn but rather descending and slowing while steeply banked.

The Mustang was not in any trouble until he was hit by the Skyraider, the Mustang performed the break as briefed.

To him, it would look like the mustang ran him down from behind and I am having trouble with the mustang slackening his backpressure to near nothing shortly after the break.

He is banked but not turning and slowing considerably...which would have been necessary for the two planes to have ended up in the same spot at the same time.

I have not done that much formation flying but would not the lead have to space himself behind the previous four ship flight and base his bank angle to keep in trail of them?

So he briefed on doing a different break than all the other planes before him?

Everybody else in the other breaks shown were 90 degrees to the runway within 5 seconds of the break while the mustang had still not gotten 90 degrees even 10 seconds after his break.
