Sure hoping, despite the rumors or "inside word" that Czech Mate surprises us with a grand arrival, and posts its best ever speeds. Its been a long time since something really fast showed up that wasn't (according to 99% of the railbirds) supposed to. Maybe since the Tsunami/Wendover incident?
      Evening,

The entire list is available on RARA's web sight. You have to go to the event information link and then click the embedded link towards the bottom right of the text.

They had some issues with the tailcone and a fire at PRS.

Yes, since FAA stuff is available to the public. Race 21 has been grounded. I'll leave it at that. The team can chime in if they want to.

On top of the troubles with 21, there is another issue with the Viper engined L-29s that needs to be addressed. At the speeds they are turning, they are beginning to experience mach tuck. I really hope they get it under control, or we will see the end of the races due to that class.

Not on the team, but they where working on next door in our hanger all last week. There installing a bigger motor, said if it gets done Ms. Penney will be flying it again.

Hey, Race5, can you give us a quick explanation of mach tuck? I can come up with a thousand humorous explanations of what this might be, but a technical explanation would be interesting.

I am not enough of an aerodynamic expert to cover it completely, so hopefully someone with the full answer will chime in. The basics revolve around a reward shift of the center of lift as shock waves begin forming on the wing in transonic flight. It results in the nose pitching down. It also results in airflow separation that can on some aircraft blank out the horizontal tail surfaces and cause an even more pronounced nose dip. In some cases, it is self righting as the increased drag will slow the aircraft enough, in other cases it can result in uncontrolled flight into terrain. I was on the fence last year and saw the black jet dip it's nose a few times, then later heard a few pilots discussing the cause. At PRS this year, one of the other jets did it just before rolling in on pylon one.

Bigger than what? It already had the big motor swap done before PRS.

Don't know, but the guy working on it, who is on our team, said it was a bigger motor that the one that broke the mounts.
