  • A silly season thought

So I had a thought yesterday about the future of Rare Bear and September Fury and need some help from some members of this board that are more mechanically inclined!

Earlier this year at a discussion forum, John Penney touched on the topic of the future of Rare Bear. He mentioned that they wanted to go after the speed record, win the gold race, and then she may be headed for display (Smithsonian?) I believe this was also discussed in a previous thread in this forum.

It would seem that they wouldn't put Rare Bear on display with a full race ready motor and boil off system, and with Mr. Lewis bringing September Fury back into the mix, would it be possible to use those to make September Fury a competitive racer again?

I know it is probably a long ways from reality but it seemed like it could be logical, if everything was compatible. I LOVE September Fury but I still want to enjoy the Bear out roundin' the sticks for as many years as possible.

    Thanks for humoring me!

Possible? Yes. Probable? Not so much.

I Would miss Rare Bear but it happens to all race horses and she does have a very long history. If it happens I think painting her old purple would be good, I personally don't care for the new paint.

Isn't the Sea Fury suppose to have a faster wing than a Bearcat? We are a month away and I hope the Furies make it, looks like alot to do with FURIUShanks, KC.

Remembering back in the late 90's, there were some Sea Fury battles that were simply phenomenal! Out on 8, there were laps where when they all cut into the turn, it was like a vertical wall of Sea Fury... Like T-6 racing on Viagra!!!!!

I do appreciate absolute maximum speed, but I'd rather see a grouping of fast airplanes close together, locked in heated battle than a single airplane burning up the course at record speeds... just my cup-o'-tea...

Just my ahem... humble opinion.. if you don't have someone in front of you.... then all you are doing is going fast!

Trying to catch the guy in front of you is what I asbolutely love about racing.. of course, winning would be nice, if you manage to achieve it..

Speaking of American Spirit, has the Rodney Lewis group been working on it?

I'm not sure September Fury, with a stock motor, will be in that group. She'll be in the gold for sure, but I'm not sure how much of a contender she'll be. I'm just happy to be able to see her race again! 232 has always been one of my favorite racers. I would love to see 232 get all the systems it needs, from Rare Bear or otherwise, to be a gold contender again.

On the other hand, Voodoo should be well within this pack and pushing the leader, if not leading outright!

I wonder how "stock". It *could* be the Fifi motor with a slow nose...

                          Heh, heh, heh.....

For all those inline fans - 34 days and we'll see what everyone has (well, 38 days...) but don't count us round guys and gals out!
I'm not sure, but I believe that there's only one aircraft set up to run a full race motor including ADI - plus some kind of performance enhancing gaseous substance that will have the pilot, competing racers and fans going Holy Crap! What the He!! did he just do???

Clock is ticking, and I can't wait! Good luck and safe passage to all,

                          Tom

(P.S. - I still have twelve packs of hot dog buns that I bought for the '09 barbecue in the back of my rental car - I guess they're still good! Are we gonna try for another cookout this year?)

Stock. The FiFi motor (which was also stock) is sitting in the back of the Bear hangar with the slow nose still on it along with the paper weight motor they pulled off 232. The slow nose from that motor is on the Bear's new motor. 232 will not have a slow nose this year.

                              ?

I guess this why they call it the silly season.

"The FiFi motor (which was also stock) is sitting in the back of the Bear hangar with the slow nose still on it along with the paper weight motor they pulled off 232."

                              True.

To clarify, The slow nose case that came off 232 went on, and still is on, the "FiFi" motor.
There are NO parts, engine or airframe, that came off 232 and went on RB.

                              Hope that helps.
