Re: Jets, air race or parade?

I would love to see the turbine NXT rounding the pylons along with a Lancair Evolution, a couple of turbine IVPs and Legacys. How 'bout a turbine Thunder Mustang or Murdo Cameron P-51?. I don't think it would take long to fill out the field, especially if they keep the class restrictions reasonable.

That sole jet loss came about from hitting nothing but rough air, something commonly found on a pylon air-race course. The jet's higher speed and fast roll rate left the pilot with insufficient time to react and recover. A Texan flown by a competent pilot would have handled it just fine.

Figure the number of airframe losses versus the number of years each class has raced at Reno and I think the results may come out more even, if not just the opposite.

Anyone have the 'numbers' and want to do the math?

I definitely wasn't trying to say anything bad about the T-6s, just pointing out any class can be dangerous and that returning to the L-39 races still has risks.

It seems like we have multiple threads about the Jet Class. It gets all mixed up.

I hope that I haven't become the new paragon of ignorance due to my earlier post. Without a doubt, my statements were opinion only........although anyone that has read the afore mentioned FAA document can see the open ended nature of it. I understood Big Jim's response to my post.....seemed appropriate to me! Sometimes it's fun to stir the pot.
