I am new to 4g mobility at Reno this year.

Besides the air race game, what Android / iPhone apps are hot for keeping track of news and timing and scoring at Reno this year?

AAFO and WAP are already bookmarked...
Any good mobile apps?

They had an iphone app last year. Nothing for us droid folks who don't drink the Apple kool-aid though. I guess will have to wait. I'm pretty positive they will do it again for the iphone, who knows about the smart people like myself who went the droid route.

There will be bulletin boards with pairings and results posted about an hour and fifteen minutes after each race. One will be at the NAG Shack in the Pits, between the T-6's and UNLTDs.

The other board will be the Info Booth behind the Reserved Grandstands, on the ramp just begore going through the Pit Gate.

Rara and the 99's will operate a booth with postings also. They will be located along the path from the Main Gate to the General Admission grandstands. This booth should also have computers up and running with current info.

During the Quals, the timeswill be posted on a board inside the IF-1 hangar.
These will not be final speeds until the end of the Qualifying period.

All of these maintained by volunteers!!!

According to Carol at RARA, they're supposed to be posting an update to the iPhone app for this year. Also they're supposed to release an app for Android. She told me it would be around the end of August, but nothing yet. I'm checking on a daily basis.

The iPhone app can be downloaded from iTunes any time. Just search for "air races." Assuming AT&T has their mobile wifi setup in place again this year, you can actualy get data communication at the field. Last year, quali and heat results were typically up within about 30 minutes of the session. For times and schedules I thought it worked great.

But what do I know, I'm just a stupid iFan.

For you iPhone/iTouch people that want to try your hand at timing the races, go to the iPhone app store and search for "Lap Speed".

It costs $1.99 It lets you enter the course length and away you go. It can do MPH/Kilos per hour and records lap time and speeds.

I just use the stopwatch and the timing chart from the NAG shack.

Well, if I only had 3 days to get my air racing fix in for the year, I probably would be in 100% sit and watch mode too. As it stands I get a full two weeks every year. Timing laps makes me feel like I'm doing something.

Looks like just the Schedule has been updated, mine still has Matt in the Buick on the line up.
