Lou IV and the F8F-2 did not attempt to qualify. Field is full at 27 aircraft ready to start tomorrow, including Furias...which is a good thing.

Forgive the ignorance, but can someone explain to me what happens with the DNQ planes now. As I understand it, the big boys don't run until Friday now, as there is no Gold heat tomorrow, leaving you with 19 or 20 planes to run the Medallion, Bronze and Silver heats. Can a DNQ fly the Medallion tomorrow?

Last question, but why would 232 pull their qual time? Had they held their spot, would it have prevented someone else from racing?

Been awhile since we had a field this full, just trying to understand the rules!

          Thanks for the help!

The field is full for tomorrow, assuming all of the 27 that are qualified can go.

            Heat 1C (medallion): qualifiers 21-27
            Heat 1B (bronze): qualifiers 14-20
            Heat 1C (silver): qualifiers 7-13

Spots 1-6 get to sit on Thursday.

A DNQ can fill the field as a conditional if one of the 27 qualified aircraft should pull out before the races tomorrow.

I believe RARA, knowing that race 232 was done for the week, removed their time to allow a conditional entry the opportunity to qualify. Had they not there is a chance a very fast racer may have been forced to sit due to a paperwork issue. Bravo if that is the case.

The current rules allow for a max of a 27 plane field. There are 30 planes on the ramp, and 28 qualified. 232 dropping out does mean that another plane will be able to race, and the two that DNQ will be conditional entries in case any one else drops out.

I am assuming that it was Mr. Lewis's call to pull his entry, a very classy move if you ask me. By doing so, he allowed another plane that will give his planes a run a chance to run. I think that shows his commitment to air racing.

Sad the Blue Angel bearcat won't be racing in unlimited but a T-28 will :-(

Any reason why the Blue Angel Bearcat did not run in qualifying? Seems an awful long way to come and then not turn a lap!
