Re: Why are some many people Stupid, when it comes to the accident

Ghost was a member of our family too, in her own right. First time I laid eyes on her, I was 10 years old. I grew up with her. Paint changes and modifications to her, were the equivalent of my growing up. This year, she looked like she had a chance to win the Gold. I would have been tickled for Jimmy and proud of Ghost. So it's not surprising that we're mourning her death as well.

Now that they have finally discovered the photo that shows no pilot in the cockpit, Fox news is reporting that the seat may have slid back and broke, with the pilot lying on his back and struggling for the controls. This from the word of some unknown "Aviation Mechanic". "Now, listen to what this aviation mechanic has to say!"

      GAH!!!

      Unbelievable idiocy...

Dear god, where do they find these people? I know, it's not really funny, but it's so stupid, how can you not laugh.

Thanks Wayne for what you do & are doing for AAFO.com. I was on the barrier fence by the AT6 pits & saw it all. After all was said & done I read Jon Gillespies "High Flight"(I always carry it with me on a 3X5 card) & I know Jimmy put out his hand & touched the face of God.

Oh god, they are stupid for sure. I'm trying to clear up some total rubbish about this accident on a guitar forum. They are talking about the seat broke and fell back concept. The naivety there is astounding. So the seat went backwards through a solid metal bulk head huh? Jesus. It's a good thing we have the Hannah incident to straighten some facts out about this one.

              Guys, see the thread here:

Im trying to straighten these guys out, but I'm not the all out expert. Hopefully I've been around long enough and I'm on the right track.

Jimmy pulled back on the stick? BS.

The local news here in Reno interviewed some knub who owns some aviation company who stated that anytime you modify a plane you risk disaster and that he wouldn't touch one. I guess they found their ExPeRt!

There is so much BS in that thread I can smell it over the internet. I wouldn't bother commenting. If Dr. Ellwood is a pilot, how come he doesn't know a trim tab from an aileron?

Well said Wayne! We are all hurting, and processing this event. I have had several conversations with friends that we both know. Talking about it, is one of the best ways to work through this.

Thanks for keeping this going, and giving people a place to go.

Agreed. Have Dr. Ellwood take a look at the shot earlier in that thread with Jimmy sitting in the cockpit of GG. Even had the seat "broke" (VERY unlikely, IMHO), there's nowhere for Jimmy to go! His back is already up against the rear bulkhead, and there's a whole lotta systems stuff (boil-off tankage, in particular) directly behind him. IMHO, the seat likely played no factor in this accident.

As for Bob Hannah's '98 mishap in Voodoo, while the end result was similar (loss of elevator trim tab), the circumstances which led to the failure were most likely NOT. It's truly an apples and oranges situation. 'Nuff said.
