I tried, I really did. But I'm frustrated and angry. I couldn't help but respond to the comments being made on the RGJ site under this headline:
"Reno disaster may end event and century of U.S. air racing"
Here was my response:

Okay, lots of people expressing an opinion that don't have a clue. BoatCamper, prepare to give up your boat: In 2009, the Coast Guard counted 4,730 accidents that involved 736 deaths, 3,358 injuries and approximately $36 million dollars of damage to property as a result of recreational boating accidents. I could post statistics from just about every sport, every activity any of you participate in. You'd be pretty pissed if we all start suggesting that those activities were ended.
The Reno Air Races have been going for almost 50 years. How many pilots lost? Nineteen. Spectators? Until this year -- NONE. Chances are very good that we won't lose another spectator for another 50 years. I grew up at the air races, and around air racers. I knew just about every one of those 19 pilots. I knew and loved Jimmy Leeward. These guys are some of the best pilots in the world. I would trust any one of them with my life, or the lives of my kids and grandkids, because I know those lives would be in safe hands. I trust the aircraft and the mechanics who work on them. Safety is always first with them. Always. They wouldn't take an airplane up that they didn't think was safe.
This was a terrible accident. But it WAS an ACCIDENT. I look forward to 2012. We'll show our respect for Jimmy and the spectators that were lost by continuing to do what we and THEY loved enough to come out every year to watch. We'll race.
