Posts made past 02:30PM 12/30/24 won't be on the new site!

We are in the final stages of resolving the issues with the forums move to the new location. After talking with tech support, the only solution was to send him a copy of all the images. This will take time - but we know the fix SO it's only a matter of time now.

Thanks again for your patience,

Here's a throw back, what happened to "Lancer Two"? Is it still around? If it is, I'm sure it's a stocker now, although from what I've read about it, she was a stocker with a paint job, a fast paint job...

        Now in a museum.

The rain shot is pretty old...

I remember that rainstorm. What a cold year!

I'm STLL drying out from that one.

Funny how it poured all week, then Mother Nature thumbed her nose at us with a beautiful, sunny cloudless sky on Monday the day after the races.

Let me step into the flame suit, but the pics of original precious metal, is she not a D model with H tail feathers? from the research i have done, the H models had a lighter weight landing gear with smaller wheels and tires so the leading edge kink was removed, and the first couple of pics show the kink in the leading edge??? and the last pic shows a D model tail?

Yep, D model with normal landing gear. The third shot is actually the first chronologically, when it was owned by Gary Levitz and still something of a work in progress. The tall tail was added later.

IIRC that was '82, right? Was it colder than '78? In 78, it SNOWED!!

Re: Where are they now? Oldies

'82 was cold longer. I remember in 1978 I went out to Pylon 2 in shorts and T-shirt on a very nice day for Racing. By Gold time is was misting and COLD, then started snowing. There was not enough transport to get us all back in so several of us volunteered to wait for the next trip..... which did not happen. We finally started walking back, and got almost all the way to the runway intersection before somebody up in the tower noticed our group of cold wet photographers walking on the runway.

                      Now THAT is a memory...

Neal, I still have the picture you gave me of Sumthin' Else sitting in the pit in '82. I got married instead of going out to the airport. Silly me, I'd have been better off going to the races!

Any chance of seeing a larger scan of "The twins"? That is an interesting photo!

I'll rescan it, TJ, and see if I can upload it.

In the meantime, I ran across a picture of my dad and RotoFinish. Jim Wright actually took the picture. If you ever came in through the gate down by Bill Lear's hangar, you've met my dad, Dick "Sarge" Rawlings.

That officially makes me a 2nd generation air race brat.

Here TJ. I don't know why, but I can only find a picture of #15, but not the other twin.
