Great scene where "Ted" is following the run away tow vehicle. "Ted, I think we're being a little gullable here!" LOL!

      Thx Michele f/launching this thread.

"Always" will 'always' rank in my top-5 all-time fave aviation flicks. Movie trailer:

This remake of the 1943 film A GUY NAMED JOE stars Richard Dreyfuss as Pete Sandich, a daredevil pilot who specializes in putting out forest fires. Pete prom...

Though I really dig A-26s, I have a soft-spot in my heart for Super PBYs (5 of them flew commercially f/many years here in SE as 24-psg amphib airliners) & Super Cat Tanker #53 N9505C was the star aircraft of "Always" that stole the show f/me when I watched it. I agree w/Don Hatten about the film's opening being one of the most exciting flying sequences ever to appear in an aviation-themed feature film!

Here's a half-dozen pics I took of N9505C at Ketchikan Airport when the tanker was making stopovers here while working the '83-'84 firefighting seasons in Alaska. N9505's pilot- Jim Dunlap was kind enough to oblige my request to make a low-pass on departure down-channel over the water along KTN's Tongass Narrows so I could take a couple pics fm atop the airport terminal building.

Also here's a link to my prev. 'Buck Shots' thread- "Super FIRE CAT!", in case you missed it:

N9505C's pilots for the film's flying sequences in "Always" were the real deal- SLAFO company owner- Bob Schlaefli & veteran air tanker jockey- Jim McCown. Jim appears in the two crew shots included in the photo set. Photo#1 (L-R): Jim McCown-P, Tim Trudell-Eng, Jim Pape-Eng & Jim Dunlap-P; Photo#2 (L-R): Jim McCown & Tim Trudell.

Last time I saw Jim McCown was many years ago when his Hawkins & Powers PB4Y Privateer stopped in KTN headed N. for fire-fighting duties that summer. Jim was grinnin' widely & still wearin' his well broken-in 'Fire Eaters' embroidered ballcap that the "Always" movie pilots got (What I would give to have one of those collector's items!)

Here's a great video tribute to all forest fire fighters everywhere (& these brave folks don't get enough recognition for what they do, in my opinion -God love 'em all!):

This is a little slide show I threw together to honor the firefighters currently battling the fires in California...

Had all three of the grandkids over yesterday evening to spend the night & played our "Always" dvd for them to watch. We all loved it & a splended time was had by all. It was as spectacular as ever for my umpteenth viewing - awesome & beautiful - drawing out so many deep emotions...

"Always" is a good flick....but IT is a take-off on the classic 40's flick "A Guy Named Joe" (Spencer Tracy,Irene Dunn,Ward Bond,Van Johnson). Now THAT is a great flick...especially if ya like P-38's.

"Peter Saint Peter what do you need?"
            "Glider practice..."

"My left engines on fire, and I was having SUCH a nice day"

Goodman whistling like a bomb when he makes a drop.
            So many good lines.

"Flat Rock, Colorado" was actually Ephrata, Washington.

The PBY is still there, a few years ago they painted the upper fuselage and upper wings Navy blue. It hasn't moved now for at least 4 or 5 years.

Here is the old WWII bunker that served as the "hill" that Goodman got bombed on. You can still see the red stain from the "retardant".

When I first started flying aerobatics at Ephrata (we have our box there) one of the B-26's from the movie was there as well. Story was a retired airline pilot bought it to fly in air shows but then lost it in a divorce.
