  • Uh, it just won't go away.

Well it's been about 2 months now and that sick feeling just won't go away. That was a horrible just horrible day an I hope all of us airrace fans NEVER to endure that again. Well lookin ahead, next year has a lot to be settled after what is it now? 3 years since a Breitling Gold Sunday? I imagine it will be just as great as ever!!! Hope you all are winding down well after the tragedy and as I said, I hope this never happens again, it's just such a happy sport and something like this just is tragic. Thanks Jimmy for all you did for our sport you are very missed. Well I guess it's time to start Looking to NCAR 2012!

I'm not a doctor, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, if you are still having issues over "that day" it's time to seek profesional help.

I have to agree. Find somebody to open up to and let it out. I found it really helped to talk to people who weren't there and in a safe environment where it was okay to let the emotions out.

I find myself getting a little choked up now and then, but I feel like I've turned the corner.

Best of luck to you, buddy. We're all in this together.

        Some great advise guys.

I have turned the corner as well. The first month was tuff. But since then I planted a memorial tree and am looking forward to seeing it bud out in spring.

I experienced a deep loss with the passing of my long time hero Dale Earnhardt. Same deal then, but now, I honor the legend by displaying the #3 in various forms, flags, decals, etc. I fly a 3 burgee on my boat, a #3 coffee cup hangs in the cup rack and is used on days when I need motivation. As times goes on, I'll add a 177 coffee mugg to my collection, maybe in a cool silver burgee with a black 177 for the boat.

Yes, you are not alone...even watching Buck's great vid of 177's qual lap can bring back the feelings.....they will come and go for a long time...
and probably for our lifetime. We shall all move on but none will forget.
To forget would be like forgetting 911 or Pearl Harbor or Vietman or Omaha beach...if you went through those, you wont forget those either. I was watching a history documentary about Corregidor with my mother in law one day in the 1980s and she couldn't take it and left the room.
When ever I get sad about Reno, I try and think of all the good times and the good memories....and I think about all the folks that are way worse off than I am....it helps a bit.

Chris- Jason Schillereff (air race 'videographer extraordinaire') shot the 'video' you are referencing (his 'GG-Q-run' thread)...

Oh I guess I must have overexaggerated that, I'm not still "screwed up" from the accident, but like mrcraigarcher, still string choked up when I see videos and pictures. Sorry for misleading you guys.

Re: Uh, it just won't go away.

I finally met with some friends last night that were there when it happened. They had box seats right there, but luckily had just got up to get something to drink. (This couple would usually NEVER leave during an unlimited race! Devine intervention?) They looked up and saw it happen. Fortunatly the debris went the other way, they were still VERY close!! They said last night that they are just getting to the point where they're not thinking about it when they wake up. They are healing, but it is taking some time. Don't feel bad for feeling what you are feeling. Your only human.
