  • ...and now the city is on fire.

Lots of damage, lots of families displaced, still burning.

    Sheesh! What did we do?
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

I've been asking that same question all day.

Basically Wayne, we had a fire start in the Caughlin Ranch area (west side foothills), and with 50mph winds, it quickly burned 2000 acres and 20+ homes. It could have been MUCH MUCH worse. The conditions were prime... Dry, low humidity, and gusty winds. The first responders did a great job AGAIN!

Not completely accurate as its reported locally as 2000 acres. More updates as the day progresses.

News briefing this morning (11/19) investigators determine the cause to be arching power lines due to the high winds. :-(

My heart goes out to the people that lost everything in the rush to leave.

I really want to know who we pissed off. This is ridiculous.

I am amazed at the response this got. It started around midnight and within 12 hours they had 450 boots on the ground from all over Nevada and neighboring states. By 10 in the morning the Governor was here, had offered the National Guard, contacted all of the state and Federal agencies needed and was was going from area to area trying to do what he could. Totally without air support they fought this all day and by Friday night had it pretty much under control once the winds died down. Fighting winds up to 60-70 mph in the foothills they chased it from area to area protecting everything they could. The local facilities and businesses poured out help in any way they could, with food, shelter, donations. High school kids let out for the day helped stock the centers and supplies.
It was VERY encouraging to see how the community pulled together.
It felt similiar to the first response to the crash at the races. A lot of very professional peopl e getting done what needed to be done.
