  • Webcast comparison. Air Races and Pipeline Surfing Contest.

Surfing is not a popular sport except for those who surf and those who follow it which is similar to the Reno Air Races. Thinking about it, less people follow Air Racing than surfing.

The Triple Crown of Surfing, approx 5 weeks of the biggest Professional Surfing Contest in the world occurs on the North Shore of Oahu Hawaii every November/December. There's not much money in it for the contestants/advertisers, but they're able to Webcast all of it.

The Pipeline Surfing Contest is going on right now, and maybe for the next few days if the swell holds up. They have 13 days to complete the contest. It will probably take 3-4 full days to complete the contest.

I believe this is what the Reno Air Races could look like, if they were to provide a live Webcast, similar to what is occurring with the Pipeline Contest.

If you want to see how the Reno Air Races could look if it was Webcast live, look at the Pipeline Contest and compare. Should be live from 10am-6pm, Pacific Standard Time. Go here, then click on "Watch Now" http://www.triplecrownofsurfing.com/

LoadTV was actually live streaming the races on the internet this year. They were there Friday. All the footage was turned over to the NTSB.

I know there was talk about the possibility of cameras on the pylons... Obviously money would be an issue.

I'm not sure what all will become of it, but clearly you've got a good idea there.
