And a "B-Team" with a near-470 MPH qualifying speed on a semi-stock motor and without a slow nose case!
(engine trouble due to possible valve goof...similar to when a timing chain in some car engines lets go and the piston travels too far)Last edited by Tigercat24; 08-27-2012, 08:13 AM."America is all about speed...hot, nasty, bada** speed."

Not really sure what the OP is suggesting unless the pushrod/rocker/valve assembly seized up and hung open so the piston broke a valve head off. Nothing like a timing chain jump can really happen on a radial, unless the gear drive for the cam ring(s) was to slip. And then it would wipe out all cylinders on the row served by that cam ring, not just one.

Just looked badly burned to me when they had it apart. Pic is at home though.

As the 2012 National Championship Air Races and Air Show in Reno, Nevada closes in, the Lewis Air Legends Hawker MK-11 Sea Fury ‘232,’ prepares for race day. This iconic warbird is currently in two pieces awaiting a “boil-off” system inspection from the team at Fighter Rebuilders and its completely overhauled engine, complete with slow turning nose case, compliments of Anderson Aeromotive, Inc. Check out the new photo of the plane while undergoing restoration at Fighter Rebuilders on the Sea Fury page. ‘232’ is expected to be faster than ever and will prove to be a top competitor at this year’s race."

So, with a healthy Bear and 232, no VooDoo, Strega better show up prepared to go fast (not that they wouldn't be in the first place.) It sounds like the pressure is on. Lets throw Furas in and all I can say is Gentleman, we have a race. Heck, if they have Czechmate ready, its going to be pretty epic. The whole front of the field is going to be tough to pass, due to Sea Furies being on the large side the Bear not exactly being small, and everyone throwing lots of wake turbulence, the little guys such as CM or a mustang are going to be in for a possible wild ride.
I predict high qualifying speeds, simply because one doesn't want to have to pass the guy in front of him. (Better to start up front and stay there rather than fight your way up front with a field like that.)
