    Re: New Course......

I dont think they (Hinton and Sanders) Talked to many people after thier first flight, and they didnt return after their second flight.

Sorry if I offended any ENGINEERS with my humor.
Tom Sullivan at KFBK and now Fox Business has called them that for years and its stuck with me.

The only way to offend an engineer is to tell us our calculations are off...
I have not made it out there (tomorrow) but my son was there all day. He says the Sport class seems to having an issue with pylon 1.

Here is what Steven had to say on Facebook.

Team Strega is back in Bakersfield after a successful trip to Reno. Had a great time at PRS and the new course felt good! 89 more days till the races...

Sorry...I got super busy after that. But yeah, like the post has already addressed, he said that while it was different, it would work.

I also spoke with a few jet pilots, and they like the new course. I know there are a number of folks that don't really like the jets, but I'm in the camp of if it has wings and flies, I love it!

I remember a time before autocad where your choices were the old ibm system with light pen pointer or writing code in basic to render designs.

Of course, I can still use a pencil.

Heck, I started out using ruling pens on linen...
And I STILL use my rpidiograph pens for my artwork.
Amazing the technology changes in 38 years.

              Sorry to be off topic.
Was out there Saturday for awhile. From a spectator viewpoint there was seemingly no difference, but I am not sure if anything changed for sport, T-6, F-1 or bipes?

The only change for sport will be for the gold group as they run on the unlimited course. T-6, bipe and F-1 are unaffected for now.

                  Re: New Course......

The Gold sport looked fine from the stands. The fear of it all being too far away seems unfounded at this point.
The security and safety was really clamped down. Does anyone have a feel for how they are going to be at quali's in September? I'm a little concerned about access.

Almost.. T-6 still use outer 8 and it was moved significantly, in and east. It did not seem to be an issue, though it did change their line coming into 8 somewhat. 9 did not change so I suspect they will have to adjust their line for that turn.

Has the length of the unlimited course changed?

Yes the length has changed. From 8.3+ miles to something around 7.7 miles. Outer 4 moved south as did Outer 5. Outer 6 moved east a few hundred feet as did Outer 7 & 8. The direction of each move is in general.

Sure was good to be back out there!

Does anyone know the thought process behind making the course shorter, and how that was supposed to contribute to safety?

Like earlier posts, I have to question the redesign, especially with respect to the NTSB report.

If the NTSB was concerned about the Gs enough to recommend G-suit use, then why shorten the course and force racers to maintain a sustained turn -- and thereby sustain Gs for a much longer duration?

Doesn't make sense from the cheap seats.

Without having seen the new course layout, is it possible that they're trying to more evenly distribute the Gs, with a philosophy that lower sustained Gs are preferable to higher short term Gs?
