Back in Kissimmee, on initial test runs the new prop is quieter and there is a significant increase in speed at conservative power settings. Thom was grinning ear to ear. He had to jump through a lot of "hoops" to get this new prop set up to be able to race this year. I am glad to see that Thom's and the team's hard work all year is paying off in miles per hour.
The motto on the right wingtip is holding true so far....
" I wanna go fast!!!"
How many Griffon powered Mustangs are there flying and where are they located?
Precious Metal is the only Griffon-powered Mustang flying. It and Red Baron were the only Griffon Mustangs. Miss Ashley II was not a "true" Mustang, but you can count it if you want. The British were building a Griffon Mustang during WWII as an engine test-bed but it was not completed. John Marlin at Stead is building a Martin-Baker MB5 replica. I think it uses Mustang wings (the replica not the original) but it is not a Mustang.

NA were actually contemplating a production variant, but they were going to mount the Griffon amidships... ala P-39/63. Seems silly on the face of it, considering mere "cocktail-napkin" engineers had no problem with a conventional tractor arrangement...
