    Re: FURIAS Before & After

If high reving metal propellers are touching the ground, crankshaft almost is serious damaged...

Are wooden composite propellers (like here in Europe most warbirds have) not suitable for air racing?

You would think, that with all the money spent on a plane like this, it could be built so nothing fails,...

That's impossible. EVERYTHING fails eventually, especially when you are trying to be the fastest and attempting to get the most horsepower from your machine. Even the most expensive vehicles break parts.

Was the gear down, just not locked in position?

Weren't the Russians building planes that were designed not to fail as compared to American planes?

              First I've heard of that...

For an aircraft to achieve the status of "nothing ever fails", It would have to be the perfect airplane.

Nothing is perfect. Airline engines are the most tested and most highly developed aircraft engines in the world, and even they suffer failure on occasion, hence the need for shrapnel containment barriers on them.

In a nutshell, NOTHING can be created so that it never fails. From what I have observed of our world today and have learned of the universe itself so far, even GOD hasn't been able to find a way to do that.

The prop was spinning (not fast) until the left gear collapsed and plane departed runway.
