I came across this same information about six months ago when I was reading articles on the Roadrunners Internationale website.
Lockheed already had the production facility in Oildale (P-38's during WW2) so they decided to build the first production U-2's there for security reasons. Interesting stuff......

That is cool! It's always a little more special when you have a tie to something you read or hear about. My eye was caught when I saw the thread title. I started my flight training at Meadows Field back in the late '80s.
