That is the coolest banner EVER! I wanted so bad to try and score some of that stuff but could never make a contact. Heard rumors of the closing, but one day they were open, next day gone.
It's now a Grocery Outlet AND a Big Lots (or will be in a few weeks). There is a lot of commercial development planned for out there so time will tell what it brings to the area.

Yeah, I got lucky Leo. My wife found out about the closure two months before they closed, and that's when I started "begging" her to try and get something lol. Most of the air race memorabilia was "untouchable" so to speak, as was pretty much everything else in the store. I would have loved to have gotten one of those huge lithographs that they had on the ceiling soffits throughout the store.

Scolari's is slowly becoming a victim of the economy. Around here there is the high end grocery like Raley's and the low end of Smith's and WalMart, then the discount stores like Grocery Outlet. Scolari's fell in the middle, as did such stores as Safeway and Albertson's. They just can't seem to compete and have closed several stores in their region.
I'm going to miss them. while I couldn't afford to shop there as a staple, they had great meats and such. That big wood fired grill going out front most of the year just sucked you in!

Oh yeah, I can smell it now...........definitely sad that they're gone, and you're exactly right on the situation that Scolaris is in. My wife's looking at going back to work at Smiths again.

Yep, sad deal indeed. Joey does such a great job of supporting RARA, serving on the board, sponsoring, providing the food for PRS Volunteer dinners, etc. That store and the folks that worked there will be missed.

I dry camp in an RV on the field with many judges, just west of the T-hangars. Most of us frequented the Scolari's. I know I speak for those in our corner of the compound, we won't be shopping at Outlet, Wal-Mart, or any of the other stores. We'll be driving to Scolari's locations. My dollar means more to me than to spend it anywhere else while at Reno.

I think, assuming everything goes to plan, these guys will again turn a lot of heads. With Voodoo, and likely Strega out, the door is wide open

232, I'll pick it for the win. Still, R3350s have had their issues in recent years. Still it it stays together, I'll say it will be very hard to beat.

The wild cards:

Czech mate, if its back together, and the wing is as fast as it might be, Watch out. No telling at this point.

Another large nosed Yak rumor, it could be interesting. Speculating much beyond that is a bit pointless however.

Dread, well, always a possibility.


I can't wait to see how things play out and who shows up. Perhaps PRS will reveal some answers.

The 50th should bring everybody that can possibly come out to race to the event. It's more than just a Race this year- it celebrates everything that Air Racing is and has been. The Triumph, the Sacrfice and the Challenge of the Races rings through the centuries- back even to a time when Romans Charged Chariots around the Course to Glory.

Plus- The more Warriors that show up, the more The Griffon- hearted PM will have to Feast Upon....
