    What year was that picture taken? I assume warbird registry in correct that this is Merlin's Magic.

        There is something "fishy" about the history of this particular P-51D. It is claimed to have been sold to Haiti in 1969. However Darryl Greenamyer raced a gold painted P-51D regd. N5480V with the name "Barrena's Bronco" in the 1970 California 1000 at Mojave. Therefore it seems as though there has been some id swapping at one stage. Cool to see a photo of 80V in the orange colors though, never seen that before.

          Ah yes, good old Mustang stories from South America...
          Aerofax Datagraph 1 North American F-51 Mustangs In Latin American Service by Dan Hagedorn does not list 44-73129 as being sold to Haiti which brings up a list of interesting questions...
          Apparently there "reportedly" was some sort of cover up with two more Mustangs that were re-routed to El Salvador???
          Whatever happened to "Barrena's Bronco" ?
          Any one have or know where a pics of "Barrena's Bronco" can be found?
          Did 44-73129 actually make it somewhere south of the border?
          If "Barrena's Bronco" really was 44-73129 why was it listed as being recovered from Haiti???
          Most likely it is one of six Mustangs that ended up in El Salvador but still they are all listed as being received in July of '69
          One Interesting note I found a color photo of El Salvador FAS 409 as it was just returned to the states in 1974 and the original civil paint is showing through and it's the same orange as N5480V.....
          So is "Kimberly Kaye" really 44-73129 today???

          I'm in no way any kind of expert at these histories but I can see that the Orange color is the same and it's rather a unique color also it was reported that FAS 409 did have a couple paperwork swaps to get it back into the US.

              I'd like to introduce myself. My name is John Dienst. For your information, I'm the co-author of the book that is entitled, "North American F-51 Mustangs In Latin American Air Force Service", that was published by Aerofax, Inc. Presently, I'm writing a number of articles on the history of the P-51 Mustang. Some of the topics are as follows:

              (2) A history of the P-51D/F-51D in Air National Guard Service.

                  N5480V wore a white & blue paint job in the mid- sixties while Gary Levitz N6451D sported an orange scheme with a white stripe. Therefore it looks as though FAS 409 was N6451D. N30FF was also a Cavalier 51, not a stock a/c. N6451D was stock, and so was N34FF when it came back stateside.

                    Sorry to come to this thread a year late but I just came across the photo of 80V. At some time between 1966 and 1969 (sorry I can't be more precise) there was an all-orange Mustang parked in outside tie-down at the Allegheny County PA airport (AGH). I'm not sure how long it was there as I only saw it a few times. It was supposedly owned by a local doctor. I never photograhed it or recorded any identifying data but wish I had as I have since often wondered where it came from, who it belonged to and where it finally went. Any ideas? Anyone?
