Old Snowbirds

I am busy scanning my old Reno slides, and came across this Snowbird photo from 1980. Does anyone notice something strange about the plane in the back of the pack? I haven't enhanced or touched up the picture yet, but it looks to me like the plane is missing an aileron.

Any thoughts?

Looks to me thats its shadow from another aircraft in the formation.
