  • Some shots in the dark

The full moon was out last night over the Bay Area so I headed out to the Marin Headlands to see what I could get.

I'd love to hear everyone's comments or criticisms. Before anyone says it, yes, I need a weighted tripod and to use the mirror hold to keep the camera from moving.

Not gonna hear any critique from me! I especially like the one that's looking down at the surf... awesome!

I'd ABSOLUTELY love to have a better low light camera. .. The D2X, which I still shoot and probably will for as long as it holds out, was never a very good high ISO platform...

Shot this out BeerNazi's living room window the other zero dark thirty when I got up to... err.... get a drink of water and noticed how cool it looked outside! Had the ISO cranked way up and it was probably well over a second exposure... tripod? What's a tripod... I AM going to have to grab this view with a tripod (I actually do own one somewhere)

Hope ya don't mind me playing in yer lowlight thread!

BTW... anyone else with Windows 7 using the latest browser from MS notice the image thumbnail enlarger is not functioning on the forum with that combo?

Believe it or not, those pics were shot at ISO100 F7.1, about 2 min exposures. I manipulated them a little in lightroom but not too heavily.

The pics seem to have autosized on my computer with windows 7. I'm using Chrome as my browser.

Here are a couple more I shot. The one with the deer I'm surprised even came out. I futzed with it in Lightroom a bit, but still, I could barely see the deer, I'm blown away that the camera was able to even sort of focus on them. All I could see were a few glowing eyes reflecting back at me (I had a AA mini-mag light flashlight)

          Pt Bonita lighthouse.

            Will,

Nice shots, I really like the one Point Bonita looking north, with the white water in foreground.

I am just learning the benefits if the MUP option myself.

The surf was pretty strong that night. I think it was about a 2 minute exposure so everything moving will blend into a diffuse blur. Add some moonlight to that, and well, you see the results. The MUP option is something I just never seem to remember to set it to. I make it to the remote setting and call it good. It seems to work just fine with stars, but when I start messing with artificial light, it seems to make a difference.

I shot this at Timber Cove in December, well after the sun was down. The surf did a nice job of becoming a mist or fog due to the long (45 seconds or so) exposure. Yes, I again failed to use the MUP function.
