Voodoo and Steven Hinton simply spanked the field - first lap at around 505 mph, looked in complete control the entire race. Hoot and 232 tried to keep pace, but slowly fell back from Voodoo and called a mayday towards the end, landed safe, hope the 3350 isn't too hurt. Czechmate ran down the Bear to finish second, the Bear looks like it's running like last year, it simply doesn't have the speed of the top dogs anymore. Thom and Precious Metal in fourth, followed by the Buick and Sawbones. Great race, thanks to liveairshow for the video feed!

Anybody notice 232's tail-wheel hangin' out? Hoot did another great job. So did Smooter. But in the final anaylsis: Steveo and Kerch know their stuff. Voodoo's always been quick, but it's the pilot and crew chief who make it a winner.

A carbureted motor will backfire and blow the trunk off. Its likely the motor did that on 232. It's carbureted. Fuel injected will not do that.Originally posted by AcroGimp View Post

Totally bummed about Hoot and 232, hope its not terminal. I was really looking forward to seeing that line he flies in person tomorrow. Nice to have the live coverage, and ya I noticed the tail wheel out as well, I believe it did that last year too.

So, was Stu sandbagging or is the consensus that Bear just doesn't have it? Steveo did look real good, fastest Voodoo has ever run - Hoot was doing well to the mayday.
PM is running a transport engine right? Regardless, she looks fantastic.

Hoot had 232 honkin' the first few laps, what a beautiful line he flies! Bummed when he pulled up as I love the big Sea Fury. BTW -- why did the announcers insist on calling 232 "September Fury"? Enough with the Bear sandbagging talk -- the Bear can't run consistent laps in the 480s anymore, yet alone a 505! Nice race by Thom!Comment

The whole tailwheel issue is really to test the JATO deployment mentioned about a month ago. Afterall, he probably is gonna need it to pass Voodoo. Darn good job by Smooter Scooter.John

In the early 90's the bear had limited funding and an enthusiastic crew, and was at least competitive. Deep pockets can't subsitute for a cohesive group.
