When we shot this picture of Steve Barber flying the Commemorative Air Force (formerly "Confederate" Air Force) stock Grumman F8F "Bearcat" at the Nevada County Air Fest 2002, little did we know that a scant few months later, we would get another rare opportunity with another "Bearcat".
click image for moreIn October, at the Nellis Air Show 2002 "Aviation Nation," we captured John Penney flying Lyle Shelton's "Rare Bear" in the skies over scenic Las Vegas, Nevada, during the formup for Saturday's Demonstration Air Race. These two photos of this particular Grumman "Cat" offer a unique comparison between the stock US Navy Fighter, "Bearcat" and the full race, "Rare Bear".
