"The Little Guy"

One of the more amazing stories at Reno, Bob Yancey's creation the, "aluminized" Yak-11 now known as Czech Mate. Bringing the little Russian trainer into the big league would seem a daunting task and as the years have shown, getting it into the top of that league has been just that.

Born of Yancey's dream to create an "affordable" racer to replace his increasingly rare F4U Corsair, Yancey, Bill Whitlatch and several others managed to bring the dream to reality in less than a year's time. The story of this racer is, indeed, an amazing one and it is a story that is still an open book.
